By Saturday, April 22, 2017, choose two questions from the list below and respond—be sure to identify which numbers you’re responding to and to devote at least two paragraphs to each question’s response. Submit your response to the Discussion Area. Then start reviewing and responding to your classmates as early in the week as possible.

Question 1:

How did the Great Awakening both reflect economic changes and suggest revolutionary tendencies? What role did Great Britain’s reformation play in the colonization of the New World?

Question 2:

The British had colonies in both North America and the Caribbean. Compare and contrast the economic value to Britain of the colonies in both locations. Indicate which area seemed to be more important to British commercial interests in the 1700’s and explain why.

Question 3:

The New World was a vast exploitable wonderland to Europeans eager for trade and commerce. It was also an area starved for labor to do all of the needed tasks. Describe the various solutions to these labor shortages that European groups came up with. Discuss why the native peoples appeared to have been unsatisfactory as workers in English colonies and excellent in their work for the French.

Question 4:

Did Great Britain lose more than it gained from its victory in the French and Indian War? Were the colonists justified in resisting British policies after the French and Indian War? Support your response with specific taxes or policies.

Question 5:

Was the American Revolution a genuine revolution by dictionary definition, or was it a Civil War? Explain your reasoning. Do you feel that the reasons both sides were at war played a part in its outcome? Why or why not?

Question 6:

Several factors weighed against the British in their efforts to successfully fight and win the Revolutionary War. Discuss at least four of the problems they would have had and explain how and why each of the problems was impossible to overcome.

Respond to both questions as thoroughly as possible, making sure to use information from the readings and the lectures. All responses should be in complete sentence form, using proper spelling and grammar.
